How I work

My key therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioural (CBT). The approach is supported by a strong evidence base proving that problems can get better using this treatment. It focuses on the therapist and client working together in a structured way to understand and resolve the causes of distress. Usually treatment lasts between 8–20 sessions.

CBT is based on a model which emphasises the relationship between our thoughts, behaviours and emotions and how these work together, to influence our mental and physical health. You can come along to therapy whether you are struggling with moderate or severe difficulties, as research indicates that both can improve with tested treatments.

I work alongside people with a wide range of difficulties affecting the quality of their relationships, working life and well-being. These issues include depression and forms of anxiety such as panic and high levels of worry. Often, if a person finds help before a problem becomes severe, improvement can be felt within weeks. Sometimes issues are more complex in nature and can take more time to improve.

Through my work in a specialist trauma setting I have developed expertise in treating post-traumatic stress disorder and am trained in the two NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) recommended treatments for PTSD, i.e. Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

In all cases I work strictly within Data Protection guidelines and the Ethical Codes of my accrediting bodies (BABCP and BACP).

Who I work with

Qualifying in social work early in my career has helped grow an understanding of the real life struggles clients face in life outside of the therapy room. I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to work alongside people in their own homes and communities, to lead group-work programmes and to develop skills in report writing for the courts.

Clients can self-refer and I am registered with all private medical insurers e.g. BUPA, AXA PPP, Vitality and AVIVA.
